ALTA Land Survey

“ALTA” stands for American Land Title Association.  It specifies the data needed for the issuance of title and land survey maps are drawn according to ALTA specifications. These data includes boundary lines, location of main and auxiliary buildings, and classification of easements (access rights of service utilities) such as telephone, water, gas, railways, parking areas, etc. The majority of ALTA land surveys are done for commercial properties.

The comprehensive requirements and set of standards needed for a Land Title Survey are jointly prepared and detailed by ALTA, ACSM (American Congress on Surveying and Mapping), and National Society of Professional Surveyors. These requirements provide standard survey specifications across the United States. An ALTA/ACSM Land Title Survey is required before any real estate transaction can be completed.
