Topographic Survey

A topographic survey is done to establish and map the different man-made and natural features on the surface of the earth. It provides accurate measurements of the size and location of the various changes that have taken place over a period of time in a certain area, including the presence of any man-made structures. Also called contour surveys, topographic surveys are done prior to changes to original property or if changes in land ownership will take place.

The main purpose of topographic surveys is to identify and map the contours of the ground and existing features on the surface of the earth or slightly above or below the surface of the earth. Measurements are done with technologically advanced equipment and the results are shown as contour lines on maps of the land.

Topographic surveys can be very useful for properties that will undergo construction, for homeowners, and even industrial owners. The results from the survey can be used for planning and designing buildings and other infrastructures. It provides the framework of the property before any changes or improvements are made. The results illustrate the detailed elevations of the land that can be very beneficial if one is planning to build on the land or if one requires information about the land which has been used before.
